MANACOR.- The Cultural Association S'Agrcola announced yesterday at 7.00 pm in a press conference that they will award this season's prestigious "A" of gold to tennis player Rafel Nadal. The prestigious association in the capital of the Llevant, with 104 year of history and 309 members to its name, hands out awards on a yearly basis to the person or organization that has brought the name of Manacor in the spotlights, be it in business, cultural or sportive environments, and this is where the nephew of Real Majorca's football player Miguel Angel Nadal, who in his day received this same award, has been chosen unanimously.
The spectacular irruption of Rafel Nadal on the ATP circuit and above all his great triumph to hand Spain the fifth point in the first round in Davis Cup against the Czech Republic have been the decisive factors for the Association to choose him for the award, the ceremony of which will held in the next patronal festivities of Manacor. For these celebrations which will take place coinciding with the patron's day as usual, the organizers have begun inviting people of the world of tennis such as Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moy or some members of the national Davis Cup team, who will be added to the usual list of authorities present, a list that is headed, usually, by the president of the Govern.
Spain latest jewel of national tennis has made the name of Manacor known throughout the planet and in thanks to this condition of embassador of the town, it is thought opportune that he would be given the "A"of gold and at the same time will be an honorary member of the association, that recently also awarded the world's champion of artistic gymnastics, Elena Gmez, and before that, other great sports people of the region like the world's champion of underwater fishing, Joan Gomis.
His youth and the multiple virtues that he has shown have made him one of the archipel's sportive references and his fellow Majorcans want to pay him tribute as is due.
