The Spaniards reach the quarterfinals after beating Allegro-Federer
Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo are on their way to being one of the best doubles pairs in the ATP circuit. The Majorcan and the Catalan, the doubles team in the Spanish Davis Cup team since the tie against the Czech Republic, imposed Yves Allegro and Roger Federer in a match that was decided in the third set (5-7, 6-4 and 6-3). Nadal and Robredo will find themselves in the quarterfinals against the second seed pair, Indian Mahesh Bhupatio and the White-Russian Max Mirnyi.
Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo want their participation in the Davis Cup Team to be an important one. Since the retirement of Emilio Snchez Vicario and Sergio Casal, Spain has been lacking a guaranteed team that could be decisive in the most balanced of ties. After last year's disaster in the semifinals (Corretja-Costa) and finals (Corretja-Feliciano Lpez), the G-3 laid a bet by way of two youngsters who had shown their talent in lower circuits and who had been playing as a doubles pair for some months.
Their first performance took place in the complicated tie of Brno, against the Czech Republic, and as they had already been playing the tournaments of the Antipodes, they took advantage of the weeks they were together to play singles as well as doubles. The Indian Wells field is very complicated, but Nadal and Robredo have succeeded in reaching the quarterfinals. In the final eight they overcame a very important match against the Swiss Davis Cup team, Spain's possible rival in this year's semifinals.
